Keeping Your Air Conditioning Up And Running

When it comes to your air conditioner, you want it to be fully functional when the summer rolls around. A hot summer day with no air conditioning is a good way to sweat. In order for your air conditioning unit to be fully functional, it takes some time in the off season to maintain the air conditioning system. There are many different things that you can do that will help your air conditioning system remain operational for years to come. Here are a few tips for maintaining your air conditioning system.

Air Compressor

Your air compressor is one of the integral parts your air conditioning system. Sadly, most people completely forget about the air compressor outside. Do not make the mistake of forgetting about this piece of equipment. You are going to want to make sure that all the grass and shrubs are completely cut back from the unit. You are then going to want to straighten all of the fins. Once this is done, open the compressor up and clean it really well. Get all the large debris, but then try vacuuming up the rest of the dirt. Lastly, you are going to want to make sure that the compressor is completely level.

Air Ducts

Another part of the air conditioning system that many people overlook is the air ducts. Your air ducts are the only way that the air is going to get into the rooms of your home. If they are blocked, then you can have a few fairly serious problems. First, most of the debris is going to be dust and mold. Not cleaning your air ducts and allowing these materials to accumulate is one of the most common reasons for people to have upper respiratory problems. Additionally, your air conditioning unit is going to have to work much harder to get the air through your home if debris is blocking the air ducts. The harder your unit has to work, the more you may end up paying on your utility bills.

Upkeep

Instead of not thinking about the system until it fails, it actually pays to have routine maintenance done on the system at least one time each year. This is going to keep you from having to drop the big bucks on a major repair. Companies like D & W Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. will be able to help you maintain your air conditioning unit.
